Use Sarvam AI for speech to text?

Sarvam AI can turn speech into text with your key. Your meeting audio and your Names and words list then go from this browser to Sarvam AI. With “Hear everyone on a call” on, other people’s voices go too. Nothing goes to Vaani.

Where your words go

Your notes stay on this device. Here is every stop, plainly.

Speech to text. Without a Sarvam AI key, your browser does it: Chrome and Edge send the audio to Google or Microsoft; Safari uses Apple’s engine. With a Sarvam AI key, the meeting audio goes from this browser straight to Sarvam AI, in pieces of about 25 seconds, to be turned into text, together with your Names and words list so names come out right. With “Hear everyone on a call” on, the other people’s voices go there too. Nothing goes to Vaani: the audio is held only in memory and dropped once it is transcribed.

Notes stay on this device. Everything you save lives in this browser’s storage (local storage, or IndexedDB when that is full). Clearing browser data deletes it.

The built-in notes engine runs on your device. If you add your own AI key in Settings, text goes to that provider whenever Vaani writes notes, answers a question, recaps your week, translates or drafts a follow-up. Ask and Recap send the notes they search. OpenAI, Claude and Gemini get text only; a Sarvam AI key also turns on Sarvam AI’s speech to text, so Sarvam AI gets the audio too.

Google Calendar, only if you connect it. Vaani reads your next 36 hours of events straight from Google into this browser. None of it goes to a Vaani account or database. Disconnect any time. Attendee names stay on this device; an event’s title becomes the note’s title, which goes to your AI provider like any note title if you use your own key. A note you take for an event keeps the attendee names; backups leave them out unless you turn them on in Settings. Disconnect deletes the saved events and asks Google to remove Vaani’s access. If Google can’t, Vaani tells you, and you can remove it in your Google Account under Security, Third-party connections.

Tell people you are taking notes. It’s polite, and in many places it’s the law.
